Summer is in full swing and there’s nothing like backyard Texas barbecue. Here are some tasty tips for you and your family:
Grilling or smoking:
If it’s a burgers and hot dogs kind of day, the charcoal or gas grill is your friend. Try some different seasonings, make a stuffed burger or try link sausage for a sausage wrap.
When to use a smoker:
If you’re cooking brisket, ribs, chicken, pork butt, beef ribs or a combo of these, the smoker is the way to go.
There are so many choices on the market today, from pellet smokers to traditional wood fired smokers.
When using a smoker, keeping the temperature low and smoking slowly yields the best results. Low and slow will create that nice smoke ring.
Some people use marinades or dry rubs or just stick with salt and pepper. Get creative with your seasonings, but always keep a nice bed of coals, keep the smoke coming and do everything you can to keep from checking out the progress too soon.
Understand your cooking equipment:
There are so many different varieties on the market today, talk to friends, relatives and other barbecue enthusiasts. See what they are using and why.
The more time you barbecue, the better you will understand your gear. Texas barbecue is a skill that needs to be practiced and takes time to master.
Be patient:
Great barbecue takes time, but it is always worth the wait.
Remember:
The most important part is spending the day with friends and family, having fun with the cooking, getting a full belly of good grub and making memories with those you love.
