The top competitors of Super Series V advance to the Semifinals.
Taking home the tie-down title of Super Series V was Tuf Cooper. No stranger to RODEOHOUSTON, Cooper was ecstatic to compete here once again. “There is not a better rodeo,” Cooper said.
Bareback rider Clay Jorgenson came out on top of Super Series V. In preparation for the night’s ride, he said “Just treat it as a normal rodeo, even though it’s such an important rodeo… you just got to treat each one the same.”
Justin Davis and Pedro Egurrola won the team roping title and their first guitar at RODEOHOUSTON. “It means a lot,” Davis said. “I love these guitars, and I always wanted to have one. It was a great rodeo for us.” Egurrola shared in the excitement. “It feels great [to win],” Egurrola said.
Ryder Wright emerged as the winner of the Super Series V saddle bronc competition. He is excited to move on, but frustrated over not having won the round. “[Daunting News] didn’t have his normal trip,” Wright said.
Dakota Eldridge claimed the steer wrestling Super Series V title at RODEOHOUSTON after an impressive performance. “I’ve never won a guitar here, so it was one of my goals to come and win,” Eldridge said. “I feel like it is kind of home down here. I got a routine, and it is fun to be here.”
Leslie Smalygo won the barrel racing title at Super Series V. “It’s amazing,” Smalygo said. “It all goes to Gus. He does all the hard work; I just hang on for dear life.”
Maddy Deerman won the breakaway roping title and took home the champion’s guitar. Deerman has a plan for the Semifinals. “My horse hasn’t scored very well the last couple of rounds,” Deerman said. “So, me and him are going to have a little talk about that. We’re going to get him tuned up and scoring better.”
The bull riding champion was Tristan Hutchings. Having recently recovered from an injury, Hutchings made an impressive comeback, riding 12 of his last 13 bulls. “I just did a lot of physical therapy,” Hutchings said. “I get in the gym every single day. We live, breathe and eat bull riding. You don’t get to skip a day.”
The RODEOHOUSTON® Semifinals is set for Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. in NRG Stadium.
