Four World Records Broken at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ Junior Market Poultry Auction
At the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Junior Market Poultry Auction, donors broke world records while supporting Texas youth at the NRG Arena Sales Pavilion Saturday, March 9.
Kristina and Paul Somerville purchased the Grand Champion Junior Market Pen of Broilers for a world-record-breaking $220,000. Paul said he believes in the mission of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and wants to support the future of tomorrow.
“I have been doing this for 40 years and seen the success of kids I have already supported,” Paul said. “I hope they got ahead and accomplish all the goals they have.”
The Grand Champion Junior Market Turkey sold for another world-record-breaking $190,000 to Wade Gibson, Scott Walker, Sheri and Rob Walker, and R.L. Walker Transport. Scott said supporting exhibitors at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is important because they are the future.
“I love these kids,” Scott said. “I hope this gives them a great start.”
Jeff Aronoff, Budweiser, Victoria and Parker Johnson, and Greg Miller broke the Reserve Grand Champion Junior Market Pen of Broilers world record price at $165,000. Miller said he is involved to help the future of the country by contributing to the more than 13,000 scholarships the Rodeo has given in the last 21 years.
“I have done this for 21 years and love every minute of it,” Miller said. “It is a special thrill to help these kids. They are our future leaders.”
Debbie Adams and Ron Logan, Nancy Kennedy and Judy and Tyson Kennedy, Mach Industrial Group, and Shirley and Randy Meyer purchased the Reserve Grand Champion Junior Market Turkey. Tyson said he is committed to the Rodeo and is blessed to be able to help.
“If it hadn’t been for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, I don’t know where I’d be right now,” Tyson said.
