Each year, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ welcomes millions of visitors from all different backgrounds to NRG Park. To celebrate the diversity of the Houston community, and the Lone Star State, Special Days are offered during the Rodeo.

While the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is deeply rooted in Texas, its reach ignores borders and transcends oceans to bring the excitement of the Rodeo to livestock producers worldwide. Learn more about International Days here.

OPENING DAY

March 4, 2025

Opening Day celebrates the uniqueness and community aspect of Houston! Guests of all ages can enjoy special giveaways, and a variety of activities planned throughout the day.

Opening Day Activities:

10:00 a.m. Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo 2025 Belt-Buckle Giveaway
10:00 a.m. Junction Carnival Opens
10:30 a.m. Choo Choo Soul performs at the Junction Stage presented by Woodside Energy, a singing conductor who teams up with a beatboxer to perform children’s music. Together, they turn ordinary children’s songs into fresh, head-bobbing jams that gets kids and parents grooving along.
12:00 p.m. Opening Day Parade
1:00 p.m. Midway Carnival Opens
1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. Reptutation- A Tribute to Taylor Swift and Rodeo Inspired Friendship Bracelets (Pre-packaged kits for kids to make)
2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Transform into a rodeo clown with professional face painting inspired by Leon’s iconic look, then top off your new style with a custom-made balloon hat crafted by our skilled balloon artists. Leon Coffee will be joining for a photo op with guests at Hall C Lobby.

 Belt Buckle Giveaway:

Opening Day Parade:

The parade will start at the contestant lot, go down McNee in front of the Center through Rodeo Plaza, around the Astrodome, back up Stadium Drive ending at the contestant lot. The parade will be approximately 45 minutes long and giveaways will be handed out.

ARMED FORCES APPRECIATION DAY

March 5, 2025

Armed Forces Appreciation Day honors the brave men and women for their service in the U.S. military. Visitors are encouraged to come out, dress in red, white and blue, and show appreciation for the troops, past and present.

The first Family Wednesday also falls on Armed Forces Appreciation Day. We offer free admission to NRG Park grounds to the following:

  • Actively serving military members in uniform and with a current military ID, plus four of their family members
  • Spouses of actively serving military members currently deployed with a dependent ID, plus four of their family members
  • Veterans, plus four of their family members
  • Rodeo/Concert tickets sold separately

Armed Forces Appreication Day Activities:

  • Displays with representatives from all branches located on NRG Parkway near the Kroger gate as well as between NRG Stadium and NRG Astrodome.
  • JROTC presentation by local high schools starting at 11 a.m. at the Junction Stage, presented by Woodside Energy that includes:
    • Cullen Middle School
    • Scarborough High School
    • Sam Houston Math, Science and Technology Center
  • The Red, White and Blue Salute to the Military Ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. at the Junction Stage including the following:
    • National Anthem played by the “US Marine Corp Band”
    • A mass joint service swearing-in. Approximately 500 recruits will participate.
    • Flyover
  • 25,000 red, white and blue Stadium glow stick giveaway
  • National Anthem will be performed by Tracy Labrech
  • Celebrating 50th anniversary of Vietnam War Commemoration as well as celebrating the 250th Anniversary of Army, Navy and Marines
  • The U.S. Army Special Operations Command 7th Special Forces Group located at Elgin Air Force Base in Florida will rappel inside the Stadium prior to the concert
  • 2025 Honor Board

FAMILY WEDNESDAYS

March 5 & 19, 2025

Free Family Wednesday Admission for seniors, 60 and over, and children, 12 and under, until noon on the first and third Wednesday. (This does not include rodeo/concert admission)

The Carnival Midway will open at 1 p.m. for Armed Forces Appreciation Day and normal Spring Break hours on March 19.

Discounted rides, games and food/beverage will be available on all three Wednesdays in the Junction Carnival.

SENSORY FRIENDLY DAY

March 6, 2025 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

A Sensory Friendly Experience is held in select areas of the Carnival, presented by First Community to promote an accommodating and positive experience for all Rodeo guests with sensory sensitivities or challenges. During this time, there will be minimal lights and sounds permitted in the Carnival.

We offer the following all 20 days of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo:

  • Family/Quiet Rooms that offer privacy and a quiet atmosphere located throughout the grounds.
  • Sensory Friendly bags distributed near Hall A in room 102 in NRG Center (while supplies last)
  • Sensory bags provided inside NRG Stadium Guest Services booths that are equipped with noise cancelling headphones, fidget tools and verbal cue cards that are available to all guests who may feel overwhelmed by the environment.

BLACK HERITAGE DAY

March 7, 2025

Celebrating the contributions of the Black Cowboy to western heritage with exhibitors, school performances and entertainment throughout the day.

Day-long festivities include live entertainment on the Junction Stage, presented by Woodside from Houston’s finest  bands, choirs, dance teams, cheerleader teams, and fine arts groups; special entertainment at the Champion Wine Garden, presented by Frost Bank and in The Hideout; and historical and educational displays around the grounds of NRG Park.

Black Heritage Day Activites:

  • Ag education lunch and learn 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. – The committee partners with PVAMU’s College of Agriculture Food and Natural Resources and Extension Department and HISD’s Nutrition and Agriculture Department to expose middle school students to career paths in agriculture by participating in a nutrition and horticultural activity, talking to members of 4-H and college students about their experiences, aspirations and goals and taking a tour of AgVenture.
  • Talent Showcase featuring elementary, middle and high school fine arts groups performing a Western themed show from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Junction Stage. We have almost 4,000 students participating this year.
  • Black Heritage committee Corral featuring “History of the Black Cowboy Artifacts” as well as the committee’s history here at the Show located outside of Hall B in NRG Center from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Black Heritage exhibitors which are non-profit groups that serve the African American community will have informational displays outside of Hall B in NRG Center from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The organizations participating are:
    • National African American Quilt Guild
    • OTC Trailriders
    • Prairie View A&M University
    • Texas Southern University
    • Buffalo Soldiers Museum
    • Black Cowboy Museum
    • Prairie View Trailriders
    • Worthing High School
    • Healing with Serenity
    • University of Houston Department of African American Studies
  • Step competition will be held on the Junction Stage from 2:30 – 4 p.m. consisting of representation from the Divine 9 Greek letter organizations
  • Join us for line dancing at the Junction Stage at 4:15 p.m.
  • National Anthem will be preformed by Sabrina Woodard
  • Celebration of Historically Black College and University’s drumline performance with Texas Southern University and Prairie View A&M University prior to the concert inside NRG Stadium
  • The Hideout entertainer is Lil Nate & the Zydeco Big Timers

FIRST RESPONDERS DAY

March 10, 2025

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo salutes the various public law enforcement, firefighters, EMS and other emergency services agencies in the Houston Metropolitan Area on First Responders Day.

  • Free NRG Park admission to the grounds for all first responders with a badge, plus four of their family members (admission provided at the NRG Park entrances on First Responders Day only)
  • Special equipment and services displays
  • Rodeo/Concert tickets sold separately

GO TEJANO DAY

March 16, 2025

Go Tejano Day festivities include live entertainment on the Junction Stage, presented by Woodside Energy and in the Champion Wine Garden, presented by Frost, and the Mariachi invitational Semifinals in the The Hideout. Enjoy Fiesta Charra in the NRG Center main Arena, a colorful exhibition of traditional Mexican folk dance, music and horseback riding.
