PARTICIPATE IN THE HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW AND RODEO

Learn more about competing in the many different competitions at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™. From livestock and horse show competitions, to painting and sculpting, there is something for everyone at the Rodeo.

LIVESTOCK SHOW

Since 1932, the Houston Livestock Show has encouraged and promoted the breeding, raising and marketing of the livestock industry in the Texas Gulf Coast region. Today, it is the world’s largest and most prestigious livestock exhibition. 

HORSE SHOW

Learn more about competing in the many different horse show competitions at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Contestants of all ages may participate in the hundreds of events taking place during Rodeo. Nonstop action and top riders make Houston’s horse show the best experience.

CALF SCRAMBLE

With the drop of a cowboy hat, 15 calves are released into the arena for 30 kids to chase and attempt to catch.

Each student who catches a calf is awarded a $1,750 certificate to purchase a registered beef heifer or market steer to show at the Houston Livestock Show the following year. 

JUDGING & CONTESTS

Young Texas students display their talents and skills by competing in the many different judging and contests held at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. 

AUCTIONS

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo junior market auctions reward young Texas 4-H and FFA students for their hard work year round. Volunteers on the five auction committees ensure that all exhibitors who make the auction receive above-market prices for their junior market animals. Additionally, various commercial livestock sales are held during the Rodeo.

MUTTON BUSTIN'

Mutton Bustin’ is one of the fan-favorite events at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. There are two options for participation during the Rodeo: Mutton Bustin’ in NRG Stadium or in The Junction.
