RECORD-BREAKING RESULTS AT THE RODEO’S LAMB AND GOAT AUCTION

Many gathered in NRG Arena for the 2022 Junior Market Lamb and Goat Auction to witness three of the four top lots sell for Rodeo records.

Of the 1,300 lambs and 780 goats that were shown, one name emerged victorious in both shows: Hayden Schroeder. The senior from Early High School, walked his lamb and goat onto the auction block with a smile as big as Texas.

Schroeder’s Grand Champion Lamb sold for $300,000 and was purchased by the Hildebrand family, in honor of Dr. Tommy and Ruth Ann Hildebrand.

“These kids are the backbone of America,” said the Hildebrand family. “That’s why we do it. It’s the best place to spend dollars.”

Schroeder’s Grand Champion Goat, who was family owned and raised, sold for a Rodeo record of $210,000. Roger Bethune, Mary and Ken Hucherson, Amy and Mark Melton, and Mary Lee and Alan Stigall purchased the goat.

“To win the show is one thing, but to win with something you’ve seen since it was a baby is another,” said Schroeder.

Both the Reserve Grand Champion Lamb and Goat also had record breaking bids. Makenna Lain, from Parker County 4-H, brought in $185,000 for her Reserve Grand Champion Lamb. The donors were Tea and Bill Pinkley.

Reserve Grand Champion Goat exhibitor, Sunny Cowley, also broke an auction record. The Randall County 4-H member sold her goat for $190,000. Cowley’s goat was purchased by Tammy and Mitchell Barrier in memory of Becky Barrier; Michelle Iversen Jeffery; Pamela M. Logsdon, CPA; and KCEF – KCEF Foundation – Cookie Michael.
